The story
Custom Designs Work was started by Marco Visconti in Costa Volpino in 2018. Costa Volpino sits at the north end of Lake Iseo, fifteen minutes from Bergamo, with the Alpine foothills visible from the studio window. It is not Milan. That is deliberate.
The business started with a simple premise: most small and medium Italian businesses deserved better digital design than they were getting, and the reason they were not getting it was not the budget — it was that the design market in Italy below the big Milan agencies was filled with generalists producing template-based work that looked finished but performed poorly.
Marco spent six years working for agencies in Bergamo and Brescia before starting independently. He brought Giulia Ferretti on in 2020 after a referral from a shared client. Luca Bonomi joined in 2022. Three designers. The team has stayed that way deliberately — small enough that every client's work is handled by the same people who quoted the project and agreed the brief.
The client base reflects the Bergamo economy: manufacturing, craft, hospitality, professional services, retail. Some are second-generation family businesses. Some are start-ups. Some are established firms that have been operating for decades and have finally decided to invest in their digital presence at a level that matches their product quality.
All services are delivered digitally. Work starts with a call, proceeds through a structured process, and ends with a Figma file that tells the next person in the chain exactly what to build.
We take on fewer projects than we could. The reason is simple: we want to know every active project, have a view on every design decision, and be able to say that we are proud of everything that leaves the studio. That has meant turning down clients whose timelines did not allow for proper work. It has also meant that clients who have worked with us come back.
